Summary
Despite the importance of the topic, the Asian diaspora has been largely excluded from numerous area studies. There are significant populations of Asian descent in countries such as Cuba, Peru, Panama and Argentina. Moreover, many Hispanics of Asian descent actively participate in the social and cultural realms of their respective countries.
Author Biography
Dr. Debra Kay Lee-DiStefano is an associate professor of Spanish at Southeast Missouri State University. She has presented papers at regional, national and international congresses regarding the Asian diaspora in Spanish America . She has also published several articles about writers such as Regino Pedroso, Jose Watanabe and the questioning of the term mestizaje.
