Summary

Space Planning for Commercial Interiors: Office Designprovides a thorough and engaging look at the entire process of space planning for offices: from meeting the client for the first time to delivering a beautifully-rendered and creative space plan that addresses all of that client's needs. Based upon the premise that the essence of space planning is planning for people and involving people in the planning, in other words, planning according to the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) definition 'to protect and enhance the life, health, safety and welfare of the public,' this invaluable resource takes designers through the process of space planning for offices, step-by-step. From the discovery process of understanding the client's new and future space requirements, to creating typical layouts for offices and workstations, to planning support rooms and the all-important reception area, the text covers issues of circulation, spacial and square footage calculations, building codes, adapting a plan to the exterior architecture, and integrating LEED requirements into the plan. Thoughtfully organized and with useful exercises to help the reader master the entire process of space planning offices, Space Planning for Commercial Interiors: Office Designis an indispensable learning tool for intermediate-level students in interior design, architecture, facilities management, and construction management as well as professional designers and office managers anticipating a corporate move.
