Summary

English summary: SOLOMON: The Wisdom of a Man Who Loved WomenThe Bible portrays Solomon as the most resplendent king in the history of Israel. Foreign rulers and peoples threw themselves at his feet, he amassed immeasurable riches, and he erected legendary edifices. Scholars, on the other hand, speak very differently of him. He is not mentioned in any independent historical source, and not one of the edifices he is said to have built has ever been discovered by archaeologists. But even his biblical image conveys certain tensions. On the one hand Solomon is shown as a great politician, a wise statesman and an experienced economist. On the other hand he is not entirely devoted to God. Above all dedicated to women, in the end he fails before his God. And with him the idea of a united Israel rising splendidly above its neighbors is also doomed to fail. This book provides a vivid impression of the different images of Solomon encountered in the literature of Israel, and of their reflection and interpretation in Judaism and the Islam. German text.
