Summary
This book, written as part of the celebrations of the Centenary of the Physiological Society, consists of essays on the historical development of six fields of physiology. The authors are leading physiologists in their respective fields and are not only eye-witnesses of the major developments, in many cases they were themselves the major discoverers. The essays therefore give unique personal accounts which convey much of the fun and the difficulties which accompany research. The book will be of immense interest to physiologists, pharmacologists and historians of science, particularly in the life sciences.
