Summary

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The adventures of Sara, a Spaniard with a post-graduate scholarship in New York, who aspires to be a writer and get some job security.

“Before dawn, Sara leaves the Cherokee building. She crosses the sidewalk and marches on, pulling back her hair with her scarf, linked not only to her roommate but also to all immigrants who bravely try to take advantage of all that the United States has to offer, to scrape together what she can, to get some compensatory benefit in exchange for so much supremacy. She opens the door and goes up the six flights of stairs to her apartment. Her ability to take on anything seems unlimited.”

In 2012, Sara earns a modest scholarship to study creative writing in a prestigious New York university. Her friends are Latin American and she is the only Spaniard. Her days in New York are spent trying to live a decent life while attempting to finish her book.

With just her scholarship to her name, Sara goes from being an office worker in Madrid to form part of the Hispanic cultural elite that is establishing itself in New York. She will discover that, just like the religion that her father professes, literature is a doctrine based on a series of institutions, a system of prestige, and above all, a dogma of faith.
