Summary

English summary: Mary from Magdala, also called Magdalene, has been represented in the course of history in a number of very different ways. In the New Testament we encounter her first as the successor of Jesus and as a witness of his crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. In early Christian writings that today are considered apocryphal, she is Jesus' disciple, receiving from him particular revelations. In later times she was identified with the anointing sinner from the Gospel according to Luke, and eventually she became the embodiment of the remorseful sinner and penitent. Recently, there have been growing speculations that she might have been Jesus' lover or wife. The book traces the changing images of the figure of Magdalene over the course of time, but it also attempts to approach the historical Mary from the Galilean town of Magdala and her role in the Jesus movement and as a witness of the events around Easter. German text.
