Author Biography


Claudio Ponticelli, Former Director, Division of Nephrology, Ospedale Maggiore, Milan, Italy,Richard J. Glassock, Professor Emeritus, The David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles , USA

Claudio Ponticelli graduated in Medicine at the University of Milan in 1961 before specialising in Endocrinology, Urology, and Nephrology. He worked as an assistant nephrologist at the University of Milan, before
becoming Vice-Director of the Unit of Nephrology at Ospedale Maggiore, Milan in 1968, after which he became director first of the Unit of Nephrology, then of the Division of Nephrology in 1974 and finally director of the Department of Nephro-Urology in 2001. He retired in October 2003 and now works as a consultant at Scientific Institute Auxologico in Milan. His main fields of interest are primary and secondary glomerular diseases, renal transplantation, and immunosuppressive therapy. He has written more than 600 articles, and edited 22 books, as well as contributing over 80 chapters for international books.


Richard J. Glassock is an internationally recognized expert in the field of Glomerular Diseases and Clinical Nephrology. He has published over 400 original papers, books, monographs, book chapters and reviews in nephrology. He is the past-President of the American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation. He is also past-Chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine. In 1999 he was elected to Mastership in the American College of Physicians. He is also a member of the American Association of Physicians. He is the former Chair of the Department of Medicine and the University of Kentucky and Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. From 1967 to 1992 he was the Chief of Nephrology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He was continuously funded by the NIH for extra-mural research grants from 1967 to 1987. He has lectured in over 90 countries throughout the world and has been a visiting professor at over 120 distinguished academic institutions throughout the world.
