Francis has been observing and studying mammals in Southeast Asia since 1979, and has written numerous research papers on mammals in the region and several books, including A Field Guide to the Mammals of Borneo and Field Guide to the Mammals of South-East Asia. He is now a research manager with the Canadian Wildlife Service working on both birds and mammals.
