Left Behind! The True Story of Dino the Duck

After two duck families decided to nest in Lindy's garden, Lindy was horrified to find that when one of the mother ducks left the nest with her babies, she had left behind an egg that was still hatching. Lindy's plan was to rescue the abandoned duckling and then put it back with its mom. But that didn't work out as planned: the duckling had imprinted on Lindy and thought she was its mom! This is the story of how the mother ducks joined forces to raise their babies, and Lindy's attempts to get the abandoned duckling to join its family. Did she succeed? Read on to find out!

The story is suitable for children ages 3 - 9. It is illustrated with photographs Lindy took of Dino and the duck families, as well as drawings by Lindy's daughter Laurel.

Lindy Rice is a former teacher and lifelong animal lover. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from U.C. Davis. Ever since she received pet ducklings for Easter as a child, ducks and chickens have been part of her family. She has spent many years observing and studying about ducks. Raising Dino was one of her most unusual experiences.
