Summary

The true story of the 2003 Saugus American Little League's Road to Williamsport to play in the Little League World Series. This group of twelve players and four coaches got together and created this book about their experiences. It includes box scores from games played in Bristol, Connecticut and Williamsport, Pennsylvania. There are also statistics and 48 pages worth of color photos and more black and white photos. It details their inside information and thoughts while playing in arguably the great game in the history or amateur athletics with their 14-13 victory over Richmond, Texas on August 21, 2003 to advance to the United States Finals. The team was nominated for an ESPY award after this game and narrowly lost to the New England Patriots as the best game of the year. This team worked hard from day one and no one ever missed a practice during this summer run. Everyone that was involved with this team gave them compliments on their hard work and dedication. This started when they were ten-years old when that went to Cooperstown to play against some of the most talented players in the country. They held their own and worked hard to get better. Most of these kids are still playing together on the Saugus American Legion team and all hope to head to college next year. After starting out on a rush these players lost a game in the Sectional tournament in Massachusetts and came back from this defeat to win three straight elimination games. The trip in Bristol was easier with rout wins in most games to get the chance of a lifetime to go to Williamsport as a young player. Along the way we also had our share of practical jokes and tricks that we played on our teammates, but no mater what happened we knew that the next day we would be with our eleven best friends in life. There were more schenanagans in Williamsport, but we also knew when we had to work hard and practice and play games. We won our first four games in Williamsport by one run and this propelled us into the United States championship game. With out pitching depleted after an extra innings win, we lost to Florida who we had beaten in an earlier game. Our trip was finalized when we lost to Curacao. When we got back there were many accolades including a trip to Fenway Park to meet the Boston Red Sox and various parades. This is our story looking back five years at a memorable historic run where no team in Massachusetts has gone further than we have in history.
